Cuba Day 3 - Sunday September 2, 2012 - Road trip to Cayo Santa Maria

Sunrise in Habana.  Early start to get to the resort.

More Yovani

The sight here isn't the cool car... see that in the background - that's our  broke down bus!  We were split amongst the 2 other busses.  Interesting to see Jorge, our driver working on the bus.  Talk about a man of all trades.

Cuban ration book.  This is as valuable as a passport!  If lost you must report it immediately as someone can pick it up and go and get your goods.

Book starts by showing each family member and their ages.  On this page it shows the ration of  beef (carne), pollo (if you don't know what pollo is... you're not American!), and fish (pescado).

It's very detailed.  Another page includes rice, grains, butter, oil, toothpaste,  soaps, tobacco,  matches.  This page shows milk by the month.

Che.  On our journey, we visited the Che Guevara museum and memorial.  No pictures allowed in his museum or tomb.
These are the picks outside.  He looks very menacing doesn't he?
I touched his tomb, just to be able to say I did and as I was exiting, one of the attendants said, "You miss him, we all do."  It was very curious to me.  She had to be very young when he was alive.  Another obvious strong supporter of the regime.  We were told the story of his death and that he was decapitated and his hands were cut off in order to show proof that it was indeed him.  The same attendant said that was not true and that he is interred fully intact.

This is the 30 mile causeway/keys (cayo) that takes you the the resort of Cayo Santa Maria.

Greeted by a fresh piece of coconut and a nice fruity drink.

My lizard friend we encountered on our way to the beach.

Aaaaaahhhhhh!

Meghann will drop it like it's hot wherever... and it was H O T!!!

How cute are this mother and daughter duo?  Really!
Coincidentally, they have on UK blue... maybe not, this is the very day that UofL beat (I didn't even put that in caps) UK. GO C A R D S!

The water was as warm as bath water.  It was fabulous and it was very clear.

The Wades - how fantastic to see such a wonderful couple walking on the beach.
Like many on our trip, I'm so jealous of their travels.
They were a joy to be around.
